Prepared Foods Ltd: Production Journey of New Zealand Paua

Kia Ora!

I am working in Prepared Foods Ltd (NZ) as a marketing manager.  Our main product is New Zealand Pāua (abalone). We sell Pāua to many places around the globe including China, Hong Kong (China), Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, Taiwan, UK and more. All our products has passed through vigorous quality checks within New Zealand ensuring safe and delicious products that is equally environmentally friendly.

`It (Pāua) has been eaten as a delicacy since the island was first settled hundreds of years ago. It's also been used in Maori art for centuries.' (Olmedo-Perez 2014)  Pāua is also considered a delicacy in many places around the globe, especially South East Asia. For example, in Japan, dried abalone was one of Japan’s three major food exports to Qing dynasty China. In China’s imperial court, dried abalone was reconstituted in water, simmered and served among other dishes that are “fit for an emperor” , see Akimichi 2014.

Unfortunately, many Pāua on the market today are caught illegally and sold via black markets, see Olmedo-Perez 2014. This not only causes huge environmental problems from over fishing but also lacks the safety of the lawful quality control systems. By buying legally caught products, you can be ensured that both the safety of the food and the environment is taken care of.

Today, with our products, we can all enjoy the fantastic taste of New Zealand Pāua at reasonable prices. Please take a look at our brochure, Pāua information (Chinese)video or contact us to find out more.
